Today was a day that will change my life.
Last night I felt like I had to pee a lot. I played Google doctor and came to the conclusion that I had a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). I had never had one, but I knew that I needed to get to the doctor. Thankfully the doctor was able to see me right away this morning and off I was.
First thing I did was pee in a cup. The nurse put a little strip into the pee, put the strip in a machine, and said “There are all sorts of colors you do not want”. I began to panic. Of course this is when she takes me blood pressure and it was through the roof. I began to get hot and sweaty. I was in full blown panic mode. I had to have blood drawn.
My blood pressure was so high that the doctor wanted me to go to the emergency room. He even called an ambulance. One of the highlights of the day was I got to ride in an ambulance and the EMTS were pretty cute too.
I spent about five hours in the ER. I had to pee in a cup and get my blood drawn again. My blood pressure went down, but it took sometime. Thankfully my great friend Gretchen was able to leave work and spend most of my stay in the ER with me. She has an amazing ability to help anyone relax. She made me laugh. She made me think. She helped to get my mind off of things.
Gretchen had to leave early, so when I was finally discharged I called my dad to come and get me. The best part of the day was that my dad had been MIA and happened to come home while I was in the hospital. When he heard where I was, he felt guilty. He knew that he was a big part of my stress. I think it scared him. Who knows it his habits will change.
There is a lot I am not sharing and who knows if I ever will. I am not comfortable with all I learned today. I do know that I need to make some major lifestyle changes. I do not know if they will be easy or hard, but I just need to do it. Thankfully it is the summer and I will be able to focus on making these changes.
I will be honest and say what happened today scared me.
On a happy and completely different note, I signed up for the runDisney Star Wars 10K today. Actually Gretchen signed me up since I was in the hospital. I am so excited. It is not for six months and that means I need to get training!
I even bought myself a t-shirt.
