I read another banned book

Let’s be honest.  If a book is banned, I have to read it.  I want to know want to know why some people think a book is so horrible.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian happened to be a banned book that I had to read. I never would have picked up the book if I did not see it on a Banned Book list. I loved this book. It is actually a book I would recommend to any of my students. Even though many of them are not Native Americans, they can still relate to the main character’s desire to try to find his place in life. The only reason I can figure out why someone would want to ban the book is due to some foul language and the main character’s admittance to masterbating. And let’s face it, what adolescent boy has not discovered masterbating?!?!?

Last night I decided to watch another movie, hoping it was better than Alex Cross.

I hit the jackpot with Chef. It was a beautiful about the relationship with a boy who wants nothing more than to be with his father and a father that only wants to find himself so he can make his son happy.  I love this movie.  It saddens me that it was not a big blockbuster. It was a real, honest movie about life.

And it is still raining here. The news channels are having kittens over all the rain. What are they going to talk about when the rain stops?
