I played hooky from work today to accompany my mom to a doctor’s appointment. She was seeing a new doctor about her trigeminal neuralgia. She went into the appointment with low expectations and came out a little more positive. We learned that her current neurologist is not doing anything for her and has made many mistakes. Now we need to get her a new neurologist, some blood tests done, an MRI, and a change in her medication. All I care about is that my mom is feeling a bit more upbeat.
She was exhausted from the outing, so I dropped her off, and went to see The Imitation Game.
An amazing movie. I was enthralled through every minute of the movie and could not believe it did not do better in the theaters. I know it was rereleased due to the Oscar nominations and it deserved everyone of them. I do not know how historically accurate it was, but I recommend going to see it.
After the movie, I picked up my mom and we ran a few errands. It had been a big day for her, so I dropped her off at home and exchange her for my dad. We went to Firehouse Subs for dinner. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have a Firehouse Subs so close to me. It brings me back to my college days.
I came home and decided I needed to finish my book Mr. Penumbra’s 24-hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.
I really wanted to like this book. I picked up at Powell’s Books while in Portland and I have never been disappointed by a Powell’s book. This book did nothing for me. I did not want to read it, I did not care what happened, and I was so happy when it came to an end. It was not a bad book, but it just could not hold my interest. The idea was great, but it missed something for me. Maybe one day I will reread it and finally get out of it what I hoped.
